Overview
Band-to-Sleeve Revision involves removing the gastric band and converting it into a gastric sleeve. The need for band-to-sleeve conversion is due to the fact that approximately 20% to 30% of gastric band patients will not achieve the results they expected, or will have complications that force them to remove the band. It is possible to remove the band on its own, but it often leads to the patient regaining weight previously lost. Converting the procedure to sleeve gastrectomy or sleeve gastrectomy allows the patient to continue their post-operative bariatric lifestyle with an even better surgical instrument.
About Assoc. Dr. Abdullah Shisik
Dr. Abdullah Şişik was born in 1983 and graduated from Ege University Faculty of Medicine in 2007. He specialized in general surgery at Sağlık Bilimleri University Ümraniye Training and Research Hospital between 2007 and 2012. He then worked as a general surgeon at Bingöl State Hospital in 2013 and 2014, before returning to Ümraniye Training and Research Hospital in 2014. During this period, he focused on obesity surgery and cholecystectomy.
In 2015, Dr. Abdullah Şişik began performing obesity surgery at Sağlık Bilimleri University Ümraniye Training and Research Hospital, providing services in this field to over a thousand patients. He also contributed to the training of residents in the field of obesity surgery, gaining recognition within the hospital.
Additionally, he specialized in laparoscopic surgery and metabolic surgery. In 2018 and 2019, he conducted research on obesity surgery in Belgium with Professor Dr. Bruno Dillemans. He obtained the title of associate professor in 2009.
Dr. Abdullah Şişik has published over 50 scientific articles in international academic journals and has been a speaker at many international conferences. In 2016, he became one of the founding editors of the scientific journal “Archives of Clinical and Experimental Medicine” and was appointed as the chief editor in 2020. Starting from 2021, he also provides services in his own private practice.
His areas of interest include obesity and diabetes surgery. He is also involved in endoscopic procedures such as gastric balloon placements. Throughout his career, he has treated various diseases, particularly colorectal cancer, rectal cancer, obesity surgery, intestinal cancers, sleeve gastrectomy, metabolic surgery, gastric bypass, and more.
In addition to his educational background, he has continuously improved himself by participating in various courses and obtaining certificates. He has attended and obtained certificates from numerous national and international courses, expressing his commitment to constant self-renewal and development.
