A hiatal hernia occurs when the upper part of your stomach pushes up through your diaphragm and into your chest region. The diaphragm is a large muscle that lies between your abdomen and chest. You use this muscle to help you breathe. Normally, your stomach is below the diaphragm, but in people with a hiatal hernia, a portion of the stomach pushes up through the muscle..

1 year out from Nissen Fundoplication and hiatal hernia surgery. Had horrible acid reflux that was starting to damage my esophagus and a hiatal hernia. No more symptoms, my eating isgetting better and have lost weight even though this was a side effect and not the reason for the procedure. The hospital was ok, everything was taken care of when I had the procedure thanks to Letsmedi.

Dr. Selim is a very good surgeon. He was willing to actually FIX my hiatal hernia and I’m no longer in frequent pain. I have been able to eat a completely normal diet including coffee and spicy food with no issues.

It is not so difficult when performed by a surgeon who is also experienced in bariatric surgery.
Success rate is above 90%.
Yes indeed. Because in Laparsocopic Nissen Fundoplication surgery which is performed to treat hiatal hernia we do a wrap around the stomach using the part of the stomach called fundus. Fundus is also the center of the appetite, thus any maneuver involving fundus will cause a temprorary decrease in appetite together with a slight weight loss.
Obesity is a disease known to increase the risk for reflux and esophagitis. This means many people with heart burn symptoms are obese and should be treated so , yes obese people hane have this surgery safely, but there is another point to be remembered; hiatal hernia suregry technich is very similar to obesity surgery thus for willing patient obesity and hiatal surgery may be performed simultaneously and easily. This may cure both two diseases at once.
After any kind of abdiminal surgery patients may experience some swelling in their bowels due to temprarily paralisation of their bowel due surgical intervention. And in laparoscopic (key-hole) surgery, the carbondioxide gas which is used for inflating the surgical area may be felt as swelling by the patients after the surgery.
